Wart Treatment

Warts are common skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). While they are usually harmless, they can be stubborn, unsightly, and sometimes painful. At LiveYoung Medical Centre in Milton, our healthcare team offers safe, effective, and personalized wart treatment options to help you restore clear, healthy skin.

  • Common warts – rough, raised bumps usually on the hands or fingers
  • Plantar warts – painful growths on the soles of the feet
  • Flat warts – small, smooth lesions often found on the face, arms, or legs
  • Genital warts – treated with medical discretion and specialized care
  • Periungual warts – growths around fingernails and toenails

Our clinic provides evidence-based treatments tailored to your needs:

  • Cryotherapy (Freezing treatment) – liquid nitrogen applied to destroy wart tissue
  • Topical treatments – prescription-strength solutions and medicated creams
  • Chemical removal (e.g., salicylic acid, cantharidin) – safe, targeted peeling of wart tissue
  • Minor surgical removal – when other treatments are less effective
  • Compounded wart solutions – customized topical formulas prepared at LiveYoung Pharmacy for resistant warts

OHIP Coverage for Wart Treatment

At LiveYoung Medical Centre, physician assessments are covered under OHIP. However, OHIP coverage for actual wart treatment procedures is limited:

  • Covered by OHIP:
    • Assessment by a family physician
    • Wart treatment in certain cases (e.g., plantar warts on the feet that cause pain and interfere with daily activities)
  • Not Covered by OHIP:
    • Removal of cosmetic or non-problematic warts (e.g., common warts on the hands or face)
    • Repeat treatments for stubborn warts unless deemed medically necessary
    • Compounded prescription solutions from the pharmacy (these are private-pay, though some may be claimed through insurance)

💡 Our team will let you know what falls under OHIP and provide cost information before any procedure, so there are no surprises.

  • Over-the-counter treatments haven’t worked
