Immunizations & Preventive Care

At LiveYoung Medical Centre, we believe prevention is the key to lifelong wellness. Our team provides a complete range of immunizations and preventive care services for children, adults, seniors, and travelers. From seasonal flu shots to specialized travel vaccines, we make it easy for you and your family to stay protected against preventable diseases.

Seasonal vaccines protect you from illnesses that peak during certain times of the year. At LiveYoung, we offer

Influenza (Flu Shot)
Offered every fall, updated yearly to match circulating strains. Recommended for all patients over 6 months old, especially seniors, children, pregnant individuals, and those with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease.

COVID-19 Vaccines & Boosters
Available year-round with seasonal updates to match emerging variants. These reduce the risk of severe infection, hospitalization, and long-term complications.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Vaccine – RSV can cause serious illness in older adults, infants, and pregnant individuals.

Recommended for:

  • Adults 60 years and older, especially with heart, lung, or immune conditions.
  • Pregnant individuals (32–36 weeks of pregnancy) to pass protection to newborns.
  • High-risk infants and young children, particularly those born prematurely or with chronic medical conditions.

Brands available: Arexvy® (for adults 60+) and Abrysvo® (for pregnancy and infant protection).

RSV season usually occurs in fall through early spring, and vaccination reduces the risk of hospitalization due to pneumonia or bronchiolitis.

  • Other Seasonal Vaccines – Public health agencies may recommend additional vaccines during outbreaks or respiratory virus surges.

💡 Most seasonal vaccines, such as the flu shot and COVID-19 boosters, are covered by OHIP. RSV and other vaccines may require private coverage — our team will help you check eligibility

These vaccines are available year-round and protect against infections that can occur at any time:

  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap/Td boosters) – Required every 10 years in adulthood; Tdap is especially important for adults who are around infants to prevent whooping cough transmission.
  • Hepatitis A & B – Protection against liver infections. Hepatitis B is part of the Ontario childhood schedule, but adults who are unvaccinated may need it. Hepatitis A is highly recommended for travelers and certain workers.
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV) – Protects against cervical cancer, genital warts, and other HPV-related cancers. Covered for students in Grade 7 in Ontario; adults can receive it privately.
  • Shingles (Shingrix®) – Recommended for adults aged 50+. It helps prevent shingles and its painful complication, post-herpetic neuralgia. Coverage varies by insurance provider.
  • Pneumococcal (Pneumovax®, Prevnar®) – Protects against pneumonia, meningitis, and bloodstream infections. Strongly recommended for seniors and patients with weakened immune systems.

Routine immunizations ensure you remain protected throughout life and meet school or workplace requirements. These include:

  • Childhood Vaccine Boosters – Essential to maintain immunity as early doses wear off. Ontario’s immunization schedule outlines what children need and when.
  • Adult Tetanus Boosters – Recommended every 10 years. May be required earlier after certain injuries.
  • Catch-Up Immunizations – If you missed any vaccines earlier in life, our team can help you get up to date.
  • Workplace & School Requirements – Many employers, schools, and healthcare facilities require proof of vaccines such as measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and hepatitis B. We provide the documentation you need.

💡 Routine vaccines are vital for personal protection and also contribute to community immunity, reducing the spread of disease in schools, workplaces, and families.
